What??? Capitalism does not work? Our president’s got the balls to stay in power even if she’s just as famous as the outgoing Bush? Willie R is still doing good business? Cory said sorry?
What to do, what to do. I don’t know what to do. But I do know that it always helps to see the good things that happened this year.
- We made 3.5 movies. The big one was the Cinemalaya finalist, Baby Angelo, directed by Joel Ruiz. It was a difficult piece of movie to make but it was the most rewarding thing that happened this year for us. Second and third movies were also made by Joel Ruiz, Ang Ibang Mga Pamilya and Lakad ni Sammy. The “.5th” movie is still my long overdue documentary (still not done!), Kano. You will be hearing more from these movies this coming 2009.
- We have a new office. It still smells (reeks) of new paint and boxes are still all over the place, but it’s bigger and more conducive to conducting business and that’s just great!
- Obama. It’s nice to know that the world can dramatically change in a year.
- We’re still at it. One day, I’m delivering tapes to clients myself and next thing I know there’s a secretary, a tech head, a messenger, an account executive, an operations manager, and so on. It’s been hard, it’s been tough and on rare times, it’s really been slow. But we’re still around and we got plans cooked up and ready to go!
We’re having kimchi in Korea!

And locals always thought I was one of them. Of course, when I went to Shanghai, had a similar experience, too. But I’ve never been to Busan, only Seoul so this is a new.
I am quite excited to travel with Joel, Margie and Tracy for an official business trip. It’s the first time we’re all attending one festival. Fun!
To those of you who haven’t seen our latest feature…you can check out the trailer for now. No screenings yet, I’m afraid. Baby Angelo directed by Joel Ruiz, which he co-writes with Abi Aquino is not out yet. But we’ll let you know when it’s coming. Meantime it will be screening in the Windows on Asian Cinema Section in Busan.
Two of our projects are also involved in the festival but for other reasons. Both are not done yet, so we’re basically asking for more funds and help. One is mine, which is a documentary and one is a feature Arkeo is line producing with a Taiwan-based company (Great Domain), Pinoy Sunday, which will hopefully push for production next month.
To those of you who will be there this October, Jeremy Segay writes a very helpful article for those who are attending the festival. See you there!
